Since the winter semester 2017/18, the Freiburg Institute for Cultural Anthropology and European Ethnology and the Basel Seminar for Cultural Studies and European Ethnology offer a joint cross-border master’s programme. The students benefit from two strong research locations and get to know different academic cultures. The study follows common priorities: The issues of borders, migration, politics and economics. These are also part of the core of modern cultural anthropology as they are represented by the institutes in Basel and Freiburg. Other focal points are cultural practice and cultural policy. Thus, important occupational fields in museums, archives, municipalities, administration and in public relations are taken into consideration.

Organisationally, the collaboration draws on the possibilities of the European Campus. The courses are organised in such a way that they take place partly in the form of block seminars in the time frames in which the Basel and Freiburg semester periods overlap.
